Sarah Desiree Juarez
Our daughter Sarah Desiree Juarez was born on October 13, 1998 weighting 1lbs. 10o.z., at 25 weeks gestation. She is our first baby and a special gift from God! Sarah spent 3 months in the NICU at UCI Medical Center. During this time she spent 2 1/2 months on a ventilator machine intubated. She extubated herself several times and was not able to continue to breath on her own. So the Dr.'s re-intubated her several times. Sarah's PDU valve did not close on it's own right away so the Dr.'s were considering doing open heart surgery. We immediately called our Pastor and asked if he would start the prayer chain at the church we are members of. So we had the prayer chain going then I called a Pastor of another church I knew and asked if he would announce to the congregation if they could pray for our daughter. Then I was told that the credit union we belong to was praying for us. Then I got on the internet and did a search on prayer and e-mailed as many prayer sights I could possibly find. GOD STILL ANSWERS PRAYER. Sarah's PDU valve closed and she did not need open heart surgery. After a while my wife and I got use to sleeping on hospital furniture and eating hospital food. I believe it was a great trial of our faith and a great time to grow closer together as a married couple. After this Sarah steadily continue to get better day by day. Until finally she came home on January 9,1998. Sarah still had what the Dr.'s called a strider, her breathing was a little loud. Subglottic Stenosis, the reason why was because she had a very bad blocked airway passage which was cause by the many extubations and intubations. They did not find this out until after Sarah was brought home, the strider got worst and it was getting very difficult for Sarah to eat and breath at the same time. So we went back to the hospital were we learned she would required a tracheotomy to help her breath and eat better so she would gain more weight. The surgery was done and while we were in the hospital the Dr.'s did lots of x-rays and found out that Sarah had hernia that was why she was vomiting a lot of the time. Reflux the Dr.'s called it. So we stayed in the hospital a little while longer so they could do the surgery to correct the hernia and hopefully correct the reflux. Praise God every thing went very good. Now Sarah is 1 year, 5months old and weights 17 lbs. It has been a long and sleepless road but we know that we have the greatest gift of all, the gift of life and our miracle daughter Sarah. Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord; and the fruit of the womb is his reward. Psalm 127:3 Update February 2005: I wanted to let you all know that our daughter Sarah Juarez was successfully decannulated on Feb. 1, 2005. Yeeah! Praise God for his enduring healing!
