Matthew Archer

Matthew Archer 14.01.2002

Matthew was born 1 week early and had severe breathing difficulties. After a week in our special care baby unit we were transferred to Gt Ormond Street hospital where an emergency tracheostomy was performed to make Matthew safe which came as a total shock. Surgeons found Matthew has a rare laryngeal web which occluded 98% of his airway.

He has just undergone his 2nd LTR and we are in the thrux of going back and forth to see if this time the surgery will be successful and we get our greatest hope for decannulation. We have been here before so have learnt to take each step as it comes! Matthew was found to have 22q11 genetic microdeletion so also suffered from severe reflux and has had 2 nissen fundoplications for this, he also has a gastrostomy too for the time being.

We remain ever hopeful we will get there in the end and in the meantime we have a lovely little boy who despite all his challenges remains so cheerful and fun to be around!

Best Regards
Gill Archer
