Ayden Grace Thompson
My name is Derek Thompson and along with my wife, Katherine Caldwell Thompson, we celebrated the birth of our first child, Ayden Grace Thompson, on June 19th, 2004. From birth it was evident that Ayden had problems breathing and after two scopes it was decided that Ayden should undergo a supraglottoplasty to remedy severe laryngomalacia. While her stridor diminished noticeably it was obvious that she was still experiencing difficulty. The week following the procedure a subsequent scope showed bilateral vocal paralysis with her vocal chords frozen in a closed position. She was trached on August 5th, 2004 and is now a thriving smiley, bouncy, bubbly, wonderful little girl. While we know things will be different in coming years from what we might have expected, we couldn't have be more blessed than we are to have her as our daughter. She lights up our life and taking a look at her picture, I'm sure you can see why. Best regards, Derek Thompson
