Luke Rennison

Luke was born August 16, 2001. It was a traumatic birth resulting in a hypoxic ischemic event. He was in NICU for 32 days with trach, G-tube, & nissen fundo placed 9/5. Trach was placed due to tracheomalacia. He suffers from brain injury, is developmentally delayed & is on seizure controlled medication. Although this has been a very scary time, Luke has improved with the help of his ongoing aggressive therapies. His rigidity has decreased & we have seen an occasional smile. We are actively working on oral feedings but that needs alot of work. We are in a rural area & have not found anybody with a similar situation. Please feel free to e-mail us with any story you may want to share. THANKS! mksl@onecliq.net

Update December 2002:  On August 29, 2002, Luke had strabismus surgery on his eyes which amazingly corrected the crossing. He has also been off seizure meds since April 2002. Since his first birthday, he has really developed a personality. He smiles & laughs at everything & his big sister, Sarah, is his biggest hero!

He still has a lot of delay with all motor skills. He still takes most of his feeds by g-tube but eats a jar of baby food a day by mouth & occasionally drinks from a cup (when he's in the mood.)

We are looking at possible decannulation in Spring 2003. Please continue to e-mail your similar stories to us.

Matt & Kristi Rennison
