Nina

Hi my name is Samantha and I have a 3 yr old who has had a trach since the day she was born and we have no immediate date for decannulation, but we know it will be within a year or so. She has a diagnosis of severe disagnathia and is now post op of mandibular distration, which according to her doctors is a very new procedure but it worked like a charm. I have included a couple of pictures with this email if you would like to add them to your page. Your page was very informative to me and in fact I have a link to your page of my yahoogroup page because I feel it is an important tool for all parents with trach kids. Of course my daughter also has a g-tube.

Update September, 2004:  On April 1,2001 Nina was decannulated and has had very little problems or illness since. She is currently preparing to go in and have her next jaw surgery in hopes that they will be bale to get her jaw joints (which were discovered to be fused) to function. She may have to be re-trached for the procedure but we have learned that being trached isn't the worst thing that can happen.

Nina with Mom & Dad

As for me I am now currently on my 3rd trach. I was recently re-trached due to the same birth defect that Nina has severe dysagnathia...I have already begun works in order to attempt reconstruction, if it is possible.

Update March 2006

Nina had to be trached due to dysgnathia.
